Jealousy

Dictionary.com defines the term as "jealous resentment against a rival, a person enjoying success or advantage, etc., or against another’s success or advantage itself; or, mental uneasiness from suspicion or fear of rivalry, unfaithfulness, etc, as in love or aims."

Now, unfortunately we have all been prone to this emotion at least once in our lives. Normally an individual who has belief and faith in one’s self overcomes this issue. The belief that we are all equal and are capable of our own personal successes. The flip side to this scenario is the individual who is jealous of everyone and finds fault in everything. This type of behavior is dangerous because it can set in motion all types of drama. Family, friends, and associates can be affected by this and the outcomes are usually never positive.

What we learn is individuals who embrace this type of behavior have deep rooted personal issues. Inferiority complexes and similar circumstances that have bred their personalities. I believe that those prone to jealousy have extremely low self esteem and low self worth. They feel they have to compare themselves to others and sometimes belittle others to make themselves feel better. If a person is happy within themselves, there is no need to look at another person and be so concerned with the other person’s life.

As for men vs. women, unfortunately it is more acceptable for this to occur amongst women; however, men are definitely prone to this behavior as well. It’s annoying behavior and after a while that ‘jealous’ person loses a lot more friendships and relationships than if he/she had just focused on themselves and made themselves feel better. One can almost say this type of behavior is like “having your share of wrecking relationships’”.

Something for us all to think about moving forward. Let’s all strive to be better people and have healthier spiritual and emotional lives. Peace.
