LEARNING TO LET GO

As parents, you have loved and nurtured your child or children from the moment of their birth. You have provided a home for shelter and food and drink for physical maintenance. You put them on the road to mental development and education. In short, you have loved them with all your heart and soul.

In time, children grow up. They become their own people. They have their own friends, interests, and situations. Sometimes, they grow away from us. There are times when this is difficult. Their ways, views, and values may clash or conflict with all that you have taught them. This is particularly common during the teen and early adult years.

The best that can be done during this time is to share with them your experiences during that time in your life; and share with them your view on the world, relationships and reality from your perspective. Keep in mind that the teen has their own mind. They may not hear you at all. If they are not physically hurting themselves or others, you must allow them to be and let them live and hopefully learn from their own life.

Simply let them live. At some point, after trials and errors, they will find themselves back into your graces. And if not, they are growing and/or grown with that station of life, they can live their own lives away from you. With them being grown, you are not liable for them anymore. You can only hope and pray that they are living right and well. Of course, you love them and you will always be a parent. However, you cannot live for them. That is something they must do for themselves. In the end, the ethics and morals that you have shared during their formative years, God willing, will resurface and become paramount. As always, love and understanding must prevail.

IF ONLY ALL PARENTS WOULD TAKE THIS ADVICE, THEIR ADULT CHILDREN WOULD BE MUCH MORE HAPPIER AND MAKE FEWER MISTAKES IN LIFE...PARENTS ALWAYS WANT TO TEACH THEIR KIDS THINGS THEY THEMSELVES NEVER DID...WHY?
